Speed-dating has become a very popular component of many SLC-SA events. We have had hundreds of enthusiastic participants to date (no pun intended) and our events are generally over-subscribed. However, many people want to know. . . just what is speed-dating? On this page, we'll describe what speed-dating is and try to address the most common questions.BasicsSpeed-dating gives participants a structured environment in which to briefly meet 10-12 other single adults. Men and women sit across the table from each other and talk for 4-5 minutes. After each interval, men move over one seat and everyone meets someone new. During or between each "date," you can take notes and decide about whether you'd be interested in getting in touch with that person. Being Truly SinglePlease note that, as with other activities such as dances, participants in speed-dating must be truly single. All divorces must be final. RegistrationParticipation in speed-dating is strictly optional. If you choose to participate, you will need to sign up with your name and one or more ways to contact you, e.g., email address and phone number, which is available only to the speed-dating administrators. Then, you'll be given a tag with a personalized code. Privacy and SafetyThe personalized code (e.g., G2L) ensures that you don't have to give out your contact information to everyone you meet. Speed-dating is safe emotionally, too. It's a relatively relaxed way to meet other singles without fear of rejection. It is also efficient; you get to meet several single adults at one time without having to find them and go through that many first dates. After the EventWhen you get home, send an email to dating@slc-sa.org, along with your personalized code and the first names and codes of the people you would like to contact, and we will get in touch with them. If they are interested in getting in touch with you too, then we will share your email and/or phone number with them. Rest assured that your information will only be given to the individuals you specifically authorize. More InformationYou can read more about speed-dating on Wikipedia. |
